About this procedure
Who Can Apply?
Those who have lived in Spain legally, continuously and immediately prior to the application for a period of time required by the regulations.
1 YEAR
- Spanish Spouse
- Born in Spain
- Widowed Spanish
- Among others.
2 YEARS
Nationals of Latin American countries, Andorra, Philippines, Equatorial Guinea, Portugal, or people of Sephardic origin.
5 YEARS
For persons with refugee status.
10 YEARS
General Term. Persons who do not fall within the above assumptions.
Requirements
To apply for Spanish Nationality by Residence, the following are generally required:
Continuing Residency
Comply with the requirement of legal and continuous residence according to your particular case.
Correct Documentation
You must present the Certificate of Criminal Record and the Birth Certificate duly apostilled and in force.
Integration in Society
It is accredited by passing the official exams (CCSE and DELE) of the Cervantes Institute.
Payment of the Fee
The official fee (104.5€) must be paid before filing the application.
Application Procedure

Review and Preparation
Compliance with the requirements, length of residence and necessary documentation are analyzed.

Application Submission
The application is formalized before the administration together with the required documentation and the payment of the fee.
03.
Resolution and Swearing-In Ceremony
Once the nationality is granted, the oath or promise of loyalty to the King and the Constitution is made before the Civil Registry or Notary.
04.
Obtaining Documents
The registration of birth as a Spanish citizen is processed and subsequently the DNI and the Spanish passport can be requested.
