In this guide, we explain who can apply for it, the requirements and the rights it grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the EU Citizen Family Card?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a residence permit that allows family members of citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland to reside and work legally in Spain for a period of <strong>five years<\/strong>. This card facilitates family reunification and guarantees access to rights similar to those of European citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This should not be confused with the <a href=\"https:\/\/venemigra.com\/en\/family-roots-in-spain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Family Roots<\/a> which is a type of residence permit for exceptional circumstances granted to foreigners who have family ties with Spanish citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who can apply?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following family members of an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen residing in Spain may apply for the card:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Spouse or registered partner<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Children of the citizen or his\/her spouse\/partner<\/strong> under 21 years of age or older if they are economically dependent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ascendants (parents or grandparents) of the citizen or his\/her spouse\/partner<\/strong> if they are financially dependent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Any other family member<\/strong> who lives with the European citizen or who, for serious medical reasons, is dependent on him\/her for his\/her care.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements to apply for the EU Family Membership Card<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To obtain this card, the following requirements must be met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Demonstrate the family bond<\/strong> with the EU citizen (marriage certificate, partnership certificate, birth certificates, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The EU citizen must reside in Spain.<\/strong> and meet one of these conditions:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be employed or self-employed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have sufficient financial resources and medical insurance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be a student with health insurance and financial Family Card?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The application process consists of the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Gathering documentation<\/strong>Passport of the applicant, NIE of the EU citizen, documents proving the family relationship and proof of financial means.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Request an appointment<\/strong> <strong>and submit the application<\/strong> at the Foreigners Office of the province where you reside, or digitally through the use of an Electronic Certificate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pay the corresponding fee<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Receive the resolution<\/strong>Within approximately <strong>6 months<\/strong>The administration issues a response, although it may vary depending on the date of submission, the particular case and the workload of the public administration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Card issuance<\/strong>If the application is approved, a physical card is obtained with an
